ప్రజా సేవలో పునీతమైన విజయ్ కుమార్
కృషి ఉంటే మనుషులు ఋషులవుతారు, మహా పురుషులవుతారు. తరతరాలకు తరగని వెలుగవుతారు.. అన్న కవి పలుకులను తీసుకుని ప్రాణం పోసుకుంటే.. ఆయన లయన్ విజయ్ కుమార్. శ్రమ ఆయన ఉచ్ఛ్వాస. సేవ ఆయన నిశ్వాస అంధుల పాలిట ఆశా కిరణం. వికలాంగులకు విశ్వాసనీయమైన చేయూత. వృద్ధులకు భరోసా కల్పించే నిత్య చైతన్య సేవా దీప్తి విజయకుమార్, ఆయన చేపట్టిన సేవ కార్యక్రమాలు అందరికీ ఆచరణ యోగ్యమైనవి. ఎందరికో ఆమోదయోగ్యమైనవి. జీవితాన్ని సామాజిక సేవలో పునీతం చేసుకున్న అభినవ దేవుడు. లయన్ విజయ్ కుమార్ జీవన విజయ సాఫల్యం గురించి ఆయన మాటల్లోనే తెలుసుకుందాం.. బడా పారిశ్రామికవేత్తలు ప్రతిరోజు అనేకమంది ప్రభుత్వ కార్యాలయాలకు వస్తున్న ఈ తరుణంలో ప్రతి ఒక్కరికి ఎంతో ఉపయోగపడాలని సంకల్పంతో ఏకంగా అనేక కోట్ల విలువ చేసే 20 ఎకరాల భూమిని రైతుల ప్రయోజనార్థం మార్కెట్ యార్డ్ ఏర్పాటు చేయడానికి విరాళంగా ఇవ్వడం సామాన్య విషయం కాదు. ఎంతో దాతృత్వం ఉంటే తప్ప ఇది సాధ్యం కాదు. అనేక సంవత్సరాలుగా లయన్స్ క్లబ్ లో అనేకమైన ఉన్నత పదవులు నిర్వహించి వందల సేవ కార్యక్రమాలతో పాటు రక్తదాన శిబిరాలు, ఉచిత నేత్ర పరీక్షలు, వికలాంగులకు కృత్రిమ అవయవాలతో పాటు అనేక మంది బీద విద్యార్థులకు ఉన్నత విద్య కై ఎంతో ఖర్చుతో వారి చదువులు పూర్తి చేయించి వారిని ఉన్నత స్థాయికి తీసుకుని వెళ్లిన ఘనత లయన్ విజయ్ కుమార్ కే దక్కుతుంది. ఇలాంటి కార్యక్రమ నిర్వాహణ చిన్నతనం నుంచి వచ్చిన దాతృత్యం పెరిగిన కొద్ది సేవా కార్యక్రమాల ద్వారా మరింత సేవా తత్వం ఏర్పడింది. ప్రతి మనిషి ఉన్నంత ఎదగాలంటే అతడికి తప్పకుండా పరోక్షంగా సమాజం సహకరించినట్లే. అదే లేకపోతే మనిషి ఎదిగి ఉండేవాడు కాదు అని రీజనింగ్ చెప్పే విజయ్ కుమార్ ఏ సమాజం మన ఉన్నతి తోడ్పడిందో దానిలో కొంత భాగం అదే సమాజానికి కేటాయించడం మన బాధ్యత, ధర్మం అన్నారు. ఇది వంశపారంపర్యంగా మా ఇంట వస్తున్న సంప్రదాయం. ఇది మా నాన్నగారి నుంచి నేర్చుకున్న తొలి పాఠం. అందువల్ల చిన్నతనం నుంచి నాకు ఇచ్చిన దాంట్లో కొంత భాగం ఇతరులకు ఇవ్వడం నేర్చుకున్నాను. అందువల్ల లయన్స్ క్లబ్ పట్ల ఆకర్షితుడునయ్యాను. అందులో చేరిన తర్వాత పేదలకు మరింత సేవ చేసే భాగ్యం నాకు కలిగింది. అందులో పేదలకు చేసిన సేవా కార్యక్రమాలు ఎన్నో ఉన్నాయని సగర్వంగా చెప్పగలను. నేను నిర్మించిన మార్కెట్ యార్డ్ కార్యక్రమానికి రాష్ట్ర ముఖ్యమంత్రి వైఎస్ రాజశేఖర్ రెడ్డి అభినందనలు లభించాక నా సేవా కార్యక్రమాలు మరిన్ని చేసే విధంగా ముందుకు తీసుకు వెళ్ళింది.
అంతేకాకుండా రంగారెడ్డి, మహబూబ్ నగర్ జిల్లాలో ఇప్పటివరకు సుమారు 20 దాకా బస్సు షెల్టర్స్ ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. అన్నిటికన్నా నేను ఇష్టపడి కష్టపడి నాకు ఎంతో సంతృప్తి ఇచ్చిన కార్యక్రమం “బుద్ధిమాంద్యం కలిగిన పిల్లలకు” శిక్షణ ఇచ్చేందుకు ఆసుపత్రికి వీలైనంత తొందరలో ముఖ్యమంత్రి చేతుల మీదుగా ప్రారంభం చేయాలని అనుకుంటున్నాను. వికలాంగులకు చికిత్స కోసం ఎన్నో ఆసుపత్రులు ఉన్నాయి. బుద్ధి మాంద్యంతో జన్మించిన పిల్లలకు వారు పనులకు వారు చేసుకునే విధంగా తగిన ఆసుపత్రులు లేవు. బుద్ధిమాంద్యంతో బాధపడే పిల్లలను చేర్చుకునే ఆసుపత్రులు ఉన్నప్పటికీ కొద్దిరోజులు మాత్రమే ఉంచుకొని పంపిస్తున్నారు. దీన్ని దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకొని ఇటువంటి పిల్లలకు శాశ్వతమైన పరిష్కారం కనుగొనాలనే ఆలోచనే ఈ ఆసుపత్రికి రూపకల్పన చేసింది. ఈ ఆసుపత్రిలో పిల్లలను చేర్చుకోవడమే కాదు వారికి సరైన శిక్షణ అందించేందుకు నర్సులకు ముందుగా శిక్షణ ఇచ్చి వారిని తీర్చిదిద్దాము. వీరు బుద్ధిమాంద్యంతో బాధపడుతున్న పిల్లలు ఉండే గ్రామాలకు వెళ్లి కూడా శిక్షణ ఇస్తారు. దీని ద్వారా దూర ప్రాంతాలలో ఉండే పిల్లల ఇబ్బందులు పడకుండా శిక్షణ పొందిన నర్సులను తీసుకొని వెళ్ళవచ్చు (ఈ శిక్షణ పొందిన వారు పురుషులు కూడా ఉన్నారు). వారి నుంచి కొంత ఛార్జి వసూలు చేస్తారు. ఒక రకంగా వారికి ఉద్యోగ అవకాశం కల్పించినట్లే. హైదరాబాదులోని నిలోఫర్ ఆసుపత్రిలో ఇందుకుగాను మూడు అంతస్తుల ప్రత్యేక భవన నిర్మాణం చేపట్టడం జరిగింది. దీని నిర్మాణానికి ఎంతో కష్టపడవలసి వచ్చింది. ఇలాంటి ఆలోచన రాగానే ఒక ఆసుపత్రి నిర్మించదలిచాము. అందుకు తగిన స్థలం ఇమ్మని కోరినప్పుడు స్థలం ఇవ్వడానికి ఎలాంటి అభ్యంతరం లేదు అని కళాశాలలు కట్టి ఇవ్వరాదా అని చిన్న మెలిక పెట్టడంతో ఎటువంటి పరిస్థితుల్లోనైనా ఆసుపత్రి నిర్మించాలన్న ధ్యేయంతో ఆ స్కూల్స్ కట్టించి ఇవ్వడం జరిగిందని విజయ్ కుమార్ చెప్పారు. తనకు జన్మనిచ్చిన తల్లితండ్రుల పేరిట 1990లో ఒక ఆసుపత్రిని జడ్చర్లలో కట్టించి ఇవ్వడం జరిగింది. అక్కడ పత్తి రైతులు పడే కష్టాలు ఇబ్బందులు గమనించి మార్కెట్ యార్డ్ నిర్మాణానికి సొంత స్థలం తండ్రి అరికపూడి పూర్ణచంద్రరావు, నాంచారమ్మ పేరు మీద మార్కెట్ యార్డ్ ఇవ్వగా వారి విగ్రహాలను ముఖ్యమంత్రి వైయస్ ఆవిష్కరించారు. ఈ యార్ద్ ఆవరణలో మహబూబ్ నగర్ రైతులే కాకుండా ఇతర జిల్లాల రైతులకు ఉపయోగపడుతోందంటే, ఈ యార్ద్ ఎంత పెద్దదిగా నిర్మించారో అర్థం అవుతోంది. అంతేకాకుండా 40 మందికి పైగా హార్ట్ ఆపరేషన్స్ చేయించిన ఘనత వీరికి దక్కుతుంది. లయన్స్ గవర్నర్గా పనిచేసి పలు పాఠశాలలు, బస్ షెల్టర్లు, ఆసుపత్రులు నిర్మించారు. అంబులెన్సులు కూడా సమకూర్చారు. ఒకే రోజు 324 మందికి కంటి చికిత్సలతో పాటు 1997లో రక్తదాన శిబిరాలు ఏర్పాటు చేసి 20 వేల యూనిట్ల రక్తం ఒక సంవత్సరంలోనే ఏర్పాటు చేసిన ఘనత విజయ్ కుమార్ సేవలు రోజురోజుకు విస్తరిస్తున్నాయి. భవిష్యత్తులో వీరి ఆధ్వర్యంలో ఎన్నో సేవా కార్యక్రమాలు నిర్వహించి పేదల హృదయంలో చిరస్థాయిగా నిలవాలని ఆశిద్దాం…
Vijay Kumar, who shines in public service
If there is hard work, people will become sages and great men – If you take these words of a poet and bring them to life.. it is Lion Vijay Kumar personified. To labour is his nature. Belief in service is his second nature. It is also the source of unwavering hope for the blind. His support is a reliable support for the disabled. He is like a burning lamp of consciousness that instils trust and provides constant service and security to the elderly. Vijay Kumar’s service programs have been lauded by many. He can be deemed as a modern God who has sanctified his life through social service.
Let’s learn about the success of Lion Vijay Kumar’s life in his words.. At a time when even big industrialists approach government offices for monetary benefits, he donated 20 acres of land worth several crores to set up a market yard for the benefit of farmers. It is certainly uncommon, and not possible unless there is great generosity in his character.
He has often opined that society helps every man grow as much as he can and man has to devote a significant portion of the fruits of his success to the same society which has uplifted him. Generosity is a trait passed down through generations in his family and it is one of the early lessons imbibed from his father. It was also the reason for his being attracted to the Lions Club.
In his words – ‘’I consider myself fortunate to have been able to serve more extensively after joining it. There have been many service programs for seniors in Lions Clubs that I can proudly mention. My Market Yard program, which I have created, received accolades from the Chief Minister of the state, YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Inspired by this, I have continued to initiate more service programs. Additionally, in Ranga Reddy and Mahabubnagar districts, we have set up around 20 bus shelters until now. Beyond all this, the program that has given me immense satisfaction is ‘Education for Intellectually Challenged Children.’ I have taken up the program as a mission, and I am determined to put in every effort to make it a success and wanted the inauguration by the chief minister.’’
“There are many hospitals dedicated to providing medical care for individuals with disabilities. However, there is a shortage of facilities that cater to children born with intellectual disabilities and provide them with appropriate care and education. Currently, these children can only be accommodated for about 15 days before being sent away. Considering this, the initiative to provide a permanent solution and ensure that children with intellectual disabilities receive proper care and education came into being.”
“In this initiative, it’s not just about admitting children to the hospital but also providing proper education to the nurses before they take care of them. They offer education to nurses who are willing to work in villages where children with intellectual disabilities reside. Through this program, nurses who have received education in caring for these children can go to remote areas and provide them with the necessary care and education. Some charge is collected from them for the services provided by these nurses. It also opens up employment opportunities for them in a unique way.”
A special three-storied building has been constructed for this at Niloufar Hospital in Hyderabad. Though the Government asked him to build 35 schools in exchange for the building permission, he successfully finished the schools and also the hospital.
In 1990, a hospital was built in Jadcherla in the name of his parents Arigapudi Purnachandra Rao and Nancharamma. Noticing the difficulties faced by the cotton farmers there, he decided to build the Market Yard there in memory of his parents, Purnachandra Rao and Nancharamma, and their statues were unveiled by Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
The fact that this yard is serving not only the farmers of Mahbubnagar but also the farmers of other districts shows how impactful this initiative has been on the local agri-economy.
Dr. AVK has also spearheaded the effort of performing heart operations on more than 40 people. As a Lions Governor, he has built many schools, bus shelters, and hospitals along with Ambulances. He has led the unique and remarkable achievemtn of organising 324 IOL eye treatments in a single day. He has also organised blood donation camps in 1997, and has driven the collection of 20 thousand units of blood in just an year. Dr. Vijay Kumar’s services are expanding day by day. Here’s hoping that many service programs will be organized under his leadership in the future and he will remain forever in the hearts of the poor…
